Ex Machina (2014)

ex machina“One day the AIs are going to look back on us the same way we look at fossil skeletons on the plains of Africa. An upright ape living in dust with crude language and tools, all set for extinction. ” – Nathan

Number of Times Seen – 1 (17 May 2015)

Brief Synopsis – A genius computer tester is hired to make sure a new operating system is perfect before it can be let loose on the market.

My Take on it – I’ve been interested in seeing this movie for the last few months and am glad that I finally got a chance to see it.

The script is great because it basically tells a wonderful story by utilizing only 3 characters and keeping us engaged the entire time in order to try and understand what exactly is going on.

The sets look very near-future like which makes a bold statement as to how close we might be for this to be a possible fact instead of just fiction.

The philosophical and technical questions raised will make you want to think them over for a while because they are very interesting.

Bottom Line – Great performances by all 3 of the lead actors. Great script that is reflected by the fact that it is quite engaging throughout. Asks many important philosophical questions for us to ponder over. I like the near-future look of this which hints that we might be close to achieving something similar. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Caleb alludes to the fact that only Gods can create new life. The three main characters all have appropriate biblical names. Ava is a form of Eve, the first woman, Nathan was a prophet in the court of David, and Caleb was a spy sent into a new land by Moses. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
