Number of Times Seen – 1 (18 May 2015)
Brief Synopsis – After his 25 year marriage falls apart, a newly single man enlists the aid of a ladies man in order to try and find true love.
My Take on it – This is a movie that for some reason slipped past my radar and thanks to this series, Zoe threw it my way to give it a try.
In my book, nothing really can beat the loveable serious rom-com’s of the late 80’s – early 90’s, but this actually comes close because of the way that it is structured and the way that it keep hitting us with new twists and turns along the way.
The cast is great; Steve Carell, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Kevin Bacon and Marisa Tomei are all great and each adds a bit to the humorous situations that seem to feel like they could possibly happen.
Unlike in most rom-com’s, we really can feel the actual transformations of the characters viewpoints on life along the way.
Yes, some of it feels quite absurd, but it still was very enjoyable to watch.
Bottom Line – Very good rom-com with a lot of nice twists and turns. Moore, Carell, Stone, Gosling Bacon and Tomei are all great. Liked the transformation of the characters along the way. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The name plate on Emily Weaver (Julianne Moore)’s desk had a second line “Associate to the Vice President,” not “Associate Vice President.” This is undoubtedly a reference to Steve Carell’s TV series “The Office,” in which there was a running gag about Dwight Shrute having the title “Assistant to the Regional Manager,” not “Assistant Regional Manager.” (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
