Number of Times Seen – 1 (24 May 2015)
Brief Synopsis – A lonely young boy living in a small town during the 1950’s discovers a giant robot from outer space and must keep him safe from government agents who wish to destroy him.
My Take on it – I gotta say that I can’t believe that I’ve never seen this movie before.
It is filled with all of the right elements that make a movie work.
We sympathize with Hogarth, his mom and the robot and cheer them all on because of it.
The setting during the late 1950’s works so well because the national fear of communism was in full effect and that helps to add to the tension in the story.
This was Brad Bird’s directorial debut and he was able to prove that with the advancement of technology, there is so much more one can do within the realm of animation and that it isn’t a dead medium.
Bottom Line – Heartwarming story that encapsulates all of the elements needed for a movie like this to work. Uses the ‘red’ scare from the 50’s very well in order for the plot to give us the emotional output needed. Bird proved with this movie that the world of animated storytelling was just getting started and has so much more to offer us. Highly recommended!

All 30 were great recommendations but I still like the freedom to choise what I watch so I can’t do this all the time 😉

I love that I got to see new movies recommended by friends, but….. it was a lot of pressure because of my own anal retentiveness 😉
