Tnx Sherise
Number of Times Seen – 1 (27 May 2015)
Brief Synopsis – A young girl is sent to live with a newly discovered relative and is torn between two men who deeply love her.
My Take on it – This is a movie that for some reason I’ve been avoiding for years because I expected it to be a long drawn out epic with little relevance for a modern filmgoer.
In truth, the opposite is true.
Despite being too long and sometimes drawn out, this movie managed to present us with a few very poignant messages about the times when it takes place and how it can be viewed even within modern society.
I don’t want to discuss those messages mainly because they will give away too many plot points that are best to be discovered by yourself while watching this.
The actions and reactions of many of the characters during events depicted within this tale are great and I really wish that there wouldn’t have been so many lulls between those interestingly themed scenes.
This was Nastassja Kinski’s first movie and she was really great here.
Bottom Line – Interesting true tale that just felt a bit too long for it’s own good. Characters are very good and they quite often surprise us with their actions and reactions to the events around them. Epically filmed by Polanski, but I only wish that I would have found all of it to be more compelling and not just the few VERY shocking scenes. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The film’s opening dedication at the start of the film states: “For Sharon”. Roman Polanski dedicated this movie to his late wife, Sharon Tate, who was killed in 1969 by the Manson Clan. Before Tate’s death, she had read the film’s source novel by Tom Hardy and was convinced that her husband would one day make a great film based on the novel. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy

It is long… and dense… and infuriating. And I generally enjoy my classic literature.
