Tnx Vinnie

virgin suicides“No one could understand how Mrs. Lisbon and Mr. Lisbon, our math teacher, could produce such beautiful creatures.” – Narrator

Number of Times Seen – 2 (29 Jan 2002 and 27 May 2015)

Brief Synopsis –Tale of a group of boys who befriend five girls who live a very sheltered life because of their extremely strict parents.

My Take on it – This is an interesting story told as if the narrator is recalling a memory and not just as a flashback.

The cast is great with James Woods and Kathleen Turner playing the strict parents and Kirstin Dunst and Josh Harnett playing rebellious teens.

Unfortunately, none of them are used enough and it shows.

The main problem that I had with this movie is its length. It is actually too short because it doesn’t have enough time to sufficiently develop all the characters.

Bottom Line – Very interesting story that lacks a more comprehensive character development and would have been served better had it been longer. Great cast that could have been utilized more. I liked the way it is all being told as a memory and not just as a flashback. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – After she had written the script, Sofia Coppola was heartbroken to discover that another company was already producing an adaptation of the book themselves. However, they were not happy with their script, so she showed them hers and they ended up using it instead. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
