Supergirl (1984)

supergirl“My dear Nigel, the way to a woman’s heart is through the elimination of her rivals. ” – Bianca

Number of Times Seen –  (1 Jun 2015)

Brief Synopsis – Superman’s cousin comes to Earth seeking a missing orb that helped sustain life for refugees of Krypton

My Take on it – Yesterday, I had the opportunity to see the pilot for the upcoming Supergirl tv show (which im real psyched about btw) and it got me thinking of this incarnation of the character featuring a teenage Helen Slater in the title role.

This movie was a mess.

The plot is bullet ridden with holes and the acting is way too over the top.

I watched the restored directors cut and it still seems like a seive despite having the same producers as the original Superman movies

When one watches a superhero film (even in the days before Nolan and Whedon revitalized them) one expects thrills and a reason to cheer for something within the plot of a superhero movie, but this one had none of those things.

Faye Dunaway felt so misplaced as the villain because she is neither villainous, evil or menacing.

Skip this and hope the new show really takes flight.

Bottom Line – Complete waste of time. There are no thrills or even scenes to cheer at like there was in the first two superman movie. Plot is so dumb and filled with holes (even when watching the restored Director’s cut) Faye Dunaway isn’t a very evil or menacing villain.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The original movie poster incorrectly showed the Statue of Liberty holding the torch in her left hand. (see picture above) (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy
