Number of movies seen from this year – 150
Number of movies reviewed – 142 (including 25 Encore Reviews)
I was 13 in 1987 and I loved movies even at that age.
When organizing this year’s top ten list, I was surprised at how many of these movies have had such a profound influence on my life and movie watching.
Every one of these 10 movies are movies which I have seen multiple times (then and even now) and it seems that this list would have a very large presence if I ever did a top (who knows of the decade)
Most of these choices are very mainstream and I’m sure most of you have seen a large majority of these films if not 9 of the 10 listed (besides #3).
IMHO, looking back, the Oscars had a weak year in ’87 because none of the 5 nominees came even close to making this list. The Last Emperor is a great epicly shot movie, but the narrative is somewhat weak. I never liked Moonstruck on a whole and am still surprised that Cher won an Oscar for that role. Fatal Attraction might have been good and erotic at the time, but it hasn’t aged well at all. Hope and Glory never made a huge impression on me back then so perhaps I should give a rewatch and finally Broadcast News is good, but by all means not great and it also hasn’t aged as well as one would think it would.
Most of these movies have aged extremely well and are considered by many to be excellent movies even 28 years after they were released.

I like your discussion about what ages well or not. Interesting! From your list, I think you are missing out having not seen ‘Raising Arizona’ and ‘Wall Street’. Fun post, Rob.
