Number of Times Seen – 1 (7 Jun 2015)
Brief Synopsis – The “origin” story of how the warrior prince Vlad the Impaler became Dracula.
My Take on it – As most of you probably already know, I’m not a fan of horror films at all, but when I heard that this film is more action oriented than horror, I decided to give it a shot.
I went into it with very low expectations and hoped it would at least be a bit entertaining.
Surprisingly, I quite enjoyed it because it emphasized the historical action side of it as opposed to the horror side. Yes, there must still be supernatural elements involved, but they are there because they need to be, but not as the main focus of the story.
It’s disappointing that this movie didn’t do as well as it could have because it leaves the door open for many ideas for future sequels, but it doesn’t seem as if that will ever happen.
To take a story about a blood-thirsty vampire and make his origin story about a ruler who wants to rule his people well and save them from outside oppressors was a great idea that unfortunately wasn’t embraced by the masses. 😦
Bottom Line – Much better than I thought it would be. Nice to see this story revamped as an action story with supernatural elements instead of as just a horror story. Liked how it’s left open for future sequels. Too bad it didn’t do as well in the theater as they had hoped it would. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This film is intended to be the start of a reboot of Universal Studio’s “Monsters Universe” that was popular back in the 1930s and 1940s with films like Dracula, Frankenstein, The Invisible Man, The Mummy, and The Wolf Man. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
