Being that Darren and I both love watching lots and lots of movies, we decided to start a new weekly series where we challenge each other to watch a new movie that we enjoyed and feel the other one might also.
The rules are simple; it has to be a movie we have NEVER seen, (not just not reviewed)
Every Tuesday, we will both post both reviews on our sites.
Let’s hope we both can add lots of new favorites to our personal lists
For my review this week, here are my thoughts on…..
Deep Rising (1998)
Number of Times Seen – 1 (21 Jun 2015)
Brief Synopsis – A gang of pirates and mercenaries want to take over a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean only to find out that something got there before them
My Take on it – I was a bit nervous when Darren suggested that I watch this movie since I’m not a fan at all of horror flicks, but Darren told me that it’s more of an action movie, so I figured that I’d give it a try regardless.
This movie actually delivers exactly what is expected; it a a very fun movie to watch with an extremely silly plot.
The truth is, I was enjoying what was going on so much that I didn’t care about the plot at all. This movie is a seemingly carbon-copy of many other horror-action movies of the 80’s and 90’s but it still feels fresh and interesting.
Another thing that I loved about this movie is the fact that there really are no good guys in it, everyone is doing something wrong and we don’t particularly care and continue to root for most of these “bad” guys to make it out alive in the end.
Loved how one of the characters is name Trillian, which has a more personal meaning for me now since it’s a program I constantly use.
This personally isn’t a movie that I plan to watch over and over again because it isn’t cerebral at all, but if I’m ever in the mood for a brainless action flick, I might just rewatch this one.
Bottom Line – Entertaining action-horror movie that gives you exactly what you would expect; lots and lots of fun. The plot is pretty silly, but who really cares. Loved the fact that there really is no good guy here and we end up rooting for all the bad guys to prevail. Not a movie I would watch again and again, but still enjoyable to watch. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Harrison Ford turned down the role of Finnegan. The production’s budget was then downsized. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
