Number of Times Seen – 1 (21 Jun 2015)
Brief Synopsis – The son of Poseidon once again must journey to save the children of the Gods when their sanctuary is attacked.
My Take on it – AS I stated in my review of the first PJ movie, I have been meaning to see this one for a while and just never got around to it. When Mel at Vampire Placebo announced that this was the movie for her Review club last week, I decided to watch both movies back to back in order to finally check them both off my list. (Tnx Mel)
Lately, there has been a huge overabundance of YA novels that have been adapted for the screen and I think that they really need to simmer down a bit because quantity does not in any way, shape or form equal quality.
It worked with Harry Potter and The Hunger Games, but not in many more of the adapted series’.
This movie isn’t as good as the first one was and I think it’s because it relies too much on the first story and doesn’t feel like it’s its own unique story, but rather a tangent one which is mediocre in scale.
If you haven’t seen the first one, I think you will get quite lost very quickly (boy am I gald I watched them back to back) 🙂
Like in the first movie, the SFX here is horrendous and for a movie about Greek mythology, it would have behooved them to make sure that the SFX were up to scale in order for us to be able to believe everything.
After saying all that, I still am slightly intrigued by the world this story takes place in and would be interested to see where they plan to take it (if at all), because there still is strong potential out there.
Bottom Line – I think the YA movie adaptations from books have gone a bit overboard lately trying to hang on to what the Harry Potter Series started. Relies too heavily on the first movie which is a disadvantage to those who haven’t seen it. Poor SFX and mediocre plotline doesn’t help much. The series has some potential, and I wonder if they will try to continue it or not.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Portions of Circeland were filmed in the now-defunct Six Flags New Orleans, formerly known as Jazzland. The park was forced to close due to damage from Hurricane Katrina. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
