The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
This month’s Genre was chosen by Kim of Tranquil Dreams and she chose teenage/high school romance movies as the Genre for June.
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Teenage/high school romance movies…
Number of Times Seen – 1 (22 Jun 2015)
Brief Synopsis – After getting in trouble at school, a teenager is forced to join the school play and befriends a very shy girl.
My Take on it – I have never been a real fan of the Nicholas Sparks kind of movies or books and have steered as far away from them as I’ve always been able to over the years.
It’s not that I dont enjoy a good romance story, but rather I need to believe the relationship between the characters and usually in these kind of movies and novels, it is all pure sap.
IMHO, this movie falls into that very trap because I couldn’t for the life of me truly believe the love between these two main characters and it all felt way too clichéd.
I have always liked Shane West ever dince he was on ER, but he seemed out of his domain in this movie.
I can understand why some people can love this kind of movie, but I’m just not one of them and this just felt like an average made for TV movie.
Bottom Line – Too sappy for my taste. Personally didn’t think there was enough real chemistry between the characters. I can completely understand why people would enjoy a Nicholas Sparks movie, but ultimately, to me it’s like reading a average romance novel and this just didn’t do it for me.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The movie was shot in North Carolina; many of the sets were from the TV show Dawson’s Creek (1998) – particularly the school, hospital and Landon’s home. (From IMDB)
Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Nope. Found this too sappy and had a hard time believing the chemistry between the leads.
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
