Number of movies seen from this year – 213
Number of movies reviewed – 259 (including 46 Encore Reviews)
I loved the movies of 2014, not only because it was the first full release year where I reviewed every movie I watched, but because there are at least twenty films that could have found spots on this list, but since I have to fair, I (begrudgingly) widdled it down to just 10.
Of the 9 best picture nominees, only 2 were able to crack my top ten and neither of them are among the two favorites that duked it out for the golden guy back in Feb.
For anyone who saw my end of the year top ten, you will notice slight changes between that list and this one because time and rewatches help to skew the perceptions from what they were beforehand. (For better or for worse)
Perhaps in another 6 months or 6 years, my opinion will once again change.
My #1 was actually a very easy choice because I love this movie and have already seen it 4 times (and I constantly have an urge to see it again very soon)
#2 is one of the most intense and innovative movies that I’ve seen in the last few years and despite many people faulting it for it’s length and science, it still remains very high on my list of favorite movie.
#3 is actually a guilty pleasure because it’s a love story that really drew me in, I’ve already seen it 3 times this year and can’t get enough of the characters.
#4 is a very emotional documentary for movie lovers like me and it is one of the few movies on this list that I’ve only seen once (so far) because it is not an easy watch.
#5 and #6 are interchangeable in my book because they are both great biopics that both deserved much more recognition than they got.
#7 and #10 are two excellent additions to the ever expanding superhero universe, both sequels IMHO are even better than their predecessors.
#8 is the only movie that I’ve seen since I made my end of year top ten and it was one that both I and my entire family extremely enjoyed because it had a great story and was hilarious.
#9 is a great addition to the Disney canon and is another one of these movies that I feel the urge to rewatch again soon when I get the chance.
Update 2 Apr 17 – Night Will Fall is now #6, all subsequent titles are bumped down one slot
