Darren and Rob’s Movie Challenge Week #5 – Rob’s Challenge – Odd Thomas (2013)

Darren and Rob'sBeing that Darren and I both love watching lots and lots of movies, we decided to start a new weekly series where we challenge each other to watch a new movie that we enjoyed and feel the other one might also.

The rules are simple; it has to be a movie we have NEVER seen, (not just not reviewed)

Every Tuesday, we will both post both reviews on our sites.

Let’s hope we both can add lots of new favorites to our personal lists

For my review this week, here are my thoughts on…..

Odd Thomas (2013)

odd thomas“Fate is not a straight road. There are many forks in it. You have the free will to choose which one you take. But sometimes it will bend around and bring you back to that same stubborn place” – Odd Thomas

Number of Times Seen – 1 (6 Jul 2015)

Brief Synopsis – A diner fry-cook with special abilities tries to save his town from a menacing threat.

My Take on it – This movie is my book actually has one of the most perfect titles for s movie because it truly is a movie with a very ‘odd’ premise which is easy to follow and is enjoyable in most respects.

The movie feels both innovative in some of its ideas but also generic in others which is both a plus and a minus.

Certain plot devices felt too predictable because of this but the storytelling still works for almost the whole movie.

This is not the kind of movie I would generally recommend to everyone, but for those who like a good thriller with an interesting small supernatural element this is a movie for you.

Bottom Line – Great name for this movie because the whole thing really is ‘odd’. Parts feel innovative while others feel too generic and predictable. Definitely a movie for those who enjoy quirky thrillers with a sprinkle of a supernatural twist. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In the beginning of the film, a life-size cardboard standee of Elvis Presley can be seen in the main character’s apartment. In the novel, Elvis is actually one of the friendlier “spirits” that interacts with Odd Thomas. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
