Number of Times Seen – 1 (6 Jul 2015)
Brief Synopsis – A live action adaptation of the fairy tale of a young girl who wishes to go to the ball and does so with the help of her fairy godmother.
My Take on it – Once again, the powers that be have decided to try and remake a classic movie.
This time, they decided to slightly update and create a newer live-action version of this Disney animated classic.
Unfortunately, they pretty much fail at what they tried to accomplish because eventhough one may think that this could be more interesting as a live-action movie, the cartoon did a superb job of telling this tale and this version does no help in updating or adding new energy to the original tale.
Almost nothing feels “new and innovative” here and ultimately we are left with an inferior version of this story than we already had.
Some of the special effects are done quite well and the creation of the pumpkins carriage and it’s accompanying helpers is wonderful to watch, but besides that scene, this movie has little to offer us and feels quite mediocre all around.
I had hoped that with a director like Kenneth Branagh at the help, perhaps we would be in for a better film, but apparently, even he couldn’t help raise the bar on this one.
Bottom Line – Another mediocre remake of a classic that still doesn’t add more than the original Disney animated movie gave us over 60 years ago. Some cool special effects, but in general, this is just mediocre drivel despite Branagh being involved as director.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In an interview, Lily James, who plays Cinderella, said that the iconic glass slipper used in the film really doesn’t fit on her foot. Instead, the slippers were added into the film later via CGI.(From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
