Tnx for letting me take part Caz!
[Chris picks up the knife and shoves it in the gang leader’s face] “Don’t fuck with the babysitter.” – Chris
Number of Times Seen – No clue (Theater in ’87, cable, video, DVD, 8 Jun 2008 and 16 Jul 2015)
Brief Synopsis – A high school senior agrees to babysit a young girl and ends up having a night filled with lots of unexpected adventures in downtown Chicago.
My Take on it – I can actually still remember the feeling I had when I saw this movie for the first time when I was 13 in the theater.
It was such an exhilarating and thrilling feeling and it is definitely among my favorite theater watching experiences.
Rewatching it now brought all of those feelings back and despite being 41 now, I must admit that I felt extremely gitty watching this movie all over again for the umpteenth time.
It was still as much fun as it was all those years ago.
The music, atmosphere and locations reminded me so much as to what life was like living in the suburbs of the Midwest during the 80’s.
I had a HUGE crush on Elisabeth Shue and she does a wonderful job in this film. Her three sidekicks are also quite memorable and it’s funny seeing them again.
Yes, I’ve seen these lots of times over the years, but I never get tired of the story and the fun adventure that we get to enjoy along with the kids.
Bottom Line – Still great fun after all these years. Very 80’s but still very enjoyable. The added nostalgic feeling for me adds to the fun. Shue is superb here and her three charges are also quite memorable. Highly recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Bradley Whitford was allowed to use his own Camaro for the movie. It has the license plate “SO COOL”. The actual license plate Bradley had on his car. (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy

Love the approach you have taken with this post and the fact that I had never heard of this film up until now. Great that it brought back the memories when watching it recently.

I saw this in theaters too and while I did love it as a kid. Watching it again. I got a very different reaction. which you can read about here if you wish. https://videovortex.wordpress.com/2013/05/17/the-vern-goes-on-an-adventures-in-babysitting-with-elizabeth-shue-well-actually-he-only-reviews-the-movie/

I loved this film as a kid, but I recently rewatched it and like Vern has pointed aspects of this film have not dated very well. Some of the stereotyping, particularly the racial, is rather awkward to watch now.

This movie is so 80’s it hurts in both the fact that it’s really fun but also in the fact that its gender and racial stereotypes are a bit cringey.
