The Santa Clause (1994)

santa clause “Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night! When I get home, I’m getting a CAT scan! ” – Scott Calvin

Number of Times Seen – 2 (Theater in ’94 and 21 Jul 2015)

Brief Synopsis – After accidentally causing Santa’s death, a man begins to transform into the jolly man in order to replace him.

My Take on it – Most people hope to watch a Holiday themed movie and walk away with a feeling of being uplifted or rejucenated by the story.

This movie unfortunately didn’t manage to do that for me.

I liked the concept and understood what they were trying to acheive but ultimately it didn’t meet the expectations of those warm fuzzy feelings that many movies from this genre manage to produce from its audience.

I have always liked Tim Allen and his humor, but besides a few winning gags and jokes, most fell completely flat. He kinda felt out of his element here.

Overall, this felt like a pretty generic holiday movie that doesn’t deliver as well as it was expected.

Bottom Line – Interesting idea that doesn’t really feel very special. Allen has some funny lines, but overall most of the jokes fall flat. Doesn’t manage to give me that warm and fuzzy feeling that holiday movies try to attain.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Tim Allen has a criminal record and Disney has a no hiring of ex-cons policy. An exception was made in this case. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
