Paper Clips (2004)

This past Sunday was a Jewish Holy Day where we refrain from eating and drinking for 25 hours in order to remind us of the destruction of the Two Holy Temples. In order to try and connect with the somber feeling of this day, every year I try to watch films dealing with another attempt to eradicate my religion; The Holocaust. This year, I watched 4. Here is my first review:

“Future generations will have to learn about the Holocaust from the textbooks. We are the eyewitnesses that can to a certain degree, tell you what took place.” – Samuel Sitko

Number of Times Seen – 1 (26 Jul 2015)

Brief Synopsis – Documentary about how a class about tolerance led to so much more

My Take on it – I had never heard of this movie beforehand, but when searching for a movie to watch commemorating The Holocaust, I came across this film and since it sounded interesting, I decided to view it.

This movie is documented proof of how ignorance, racism and wantful hatred can be halted by the proper education of our kids.

Who woulda ever believed that such an uplifting snd amazing story could come from a small town in rural Tennesee.

I’d be very interested to know how these kids’ lives ate ten years after they experienced this lesson in tolerance.

Some of the stories told are very emotional and powerful.

Bottom Line – Amazing and uplifting story that came from a place no one would ever expect. Shows how education is the key to ending hatred and racism. Highly recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The paper clips were sent by various people by mail; the letters came from about 20 different countries. Some celebrities, like George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Bill Cosby, Steven Spielberg, Tom Bosley and Tom Hanks were among those mailing in the clips. As of the summer of 2004, the school had collected about 24 million paper clips. As of 2005, more were still coming in. Most letters contain a story or a dedication of the attached paper clips to a certain person. Some of these stories are shared in the film. (From Wikipedia)

Rating – Oscar Worthy
