Number of Times Seen – 1 (27 Jul 2015)
Brief Synopsis – When terrorists take over a Hockey stadium an kidnap the Vice-President, a fire marshal must figure out how to stop them and save his young daughter at the same time
My Take on it – After Die Hard (1988) became a successful movie (and franchise), many more Hollywood action heroes signed on to similar themed movies in order to “get in on the action”.
This movie really feels like a DH clone and doesn’t even come close to the cleverness or intelligence that was shown there.
Yes, there are some great fight scenes in this movie and it’s funny seeing Van Damme on the ice, but it also means that many of his silly one-liners also made it into the script.
This is a movie that can be enjoyed exactly for what it is; a popcorn action film, but really can’t be expected to give much more than that.
Bottom Line – A very generic Die Hard (1988) clone that lacks the impact of the former one. Typical Van Damme type of movie that has some great fight scenes, but unfortunately also has lots of his silly one-liners. Enjoyable for what its worth, but nothing more.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and Bruce Willis were considered for the role of Darren McCord, but all three turned the role down before Jean Claude Van Damme got the part. Schwarzenegger turned down the role because he had already filmed True Lies (1994) and Junior (1994) back to back. Stallone turned the role down because he didn’t like the quality of the script. Willis turned the part down because he was already working on Die Hard: With a Vengeance (1995). (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
