I have always been a sucker for movies (and plays) with witty and captivating dialogue.
One of the masters of this craft has always been Niel Simon who always wrote great banter between his characters which help keep us interested.
As a kid, I recall seeing many of his movies and despite not completely understanding all of the subject matter, always enjoyed myself.
I’m pretty sure that the first one I had the pleasure to see was this one; Max Dugen Returns (1983). I was 9, and didn’t want to see it because based on the title I thought it was a sequel. I was adamant that I first wanted to see Max Dugen and then I’ll watch Max Dugen Returns.
Being 9, I completely lost that argument and instead got treated to seeing Matthew Broderick in one of his very first roles.
I have subsequently seen many of Simon’s movies and although it is far from being the best, it still is fun to watch for the dialogue alone.
