Striking Distance (1993)

striking distance“Do you know what my dad used to say? Loyalty before all else except honor. ” – Vince Hardy

Number of Times Seen – Between 5-10 times (Theater in ’93, video, cable, DVD and 7 Sep 2015)

Brief Synopsis – A disgraced detective joins the river patrol but a murder investigation from years past comes back to haunt him.

My Take on it – We all have our guilty pleasure movies and this us definitely one of mine.

Bruce Willis was already well established as the lone wolf cop when he made this very tacky movie but I still love the story, the plot, the characters and one of the best uses of music to establish an eerie situation.

This movie has a truly smszing cast besides Willis. It features Tom Sizemore, Robert Pastorelli, John Mahoney, Sarah Jessica Parker, Timothy Busfield, Brion James, Andre Braugher and Dennis Farina and they are all superb.

This movie will definitely make u think of the song ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ in a completely different way.

Regardless, this is a fun movie to watch even once you know the plot twists like all of the rest of the Late Night with Letterman viewers did (see trivia below)

Bottom Line – Pure guilty pleasure movie. Yes, it really is tacky, but I love the characters and the story. Excellent cast not with standing. Willis was too typecast at this point but the plot twists and the eerily played song ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ make this a fun watch. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Co-star Robert Pastorelli accidentally blurted out the big plot twist during an appearance on Late Night with David Letterman (1982) long before the film was released. (From IMDB)

Rating –Globe Worthy
