My university experience was actually quite a unique one.
I studied at a local Israeli branch of an American college that offered ever class that was available in NYC.
Since the student body was so small and I was the only communications major, many, if not most, of my classes had less than 5 students; Some of them were one on one classes with the lecturers.
This was both a blessing and a curse because on the one hand, I needed to pay attention in class and actually do the assignment, but on the other hand, I got a very personalized education.
To this day, almost twenty years later, I still am not sure if it was a curse or a blessing, but rather that it just was.
In my one on one classes, the lecturer and I would usually meet off campus for the class; sometimes in the given lecturer’s office or home and other times in a cafe to discuss the Holy Roman Empire.
Another minus was that if I chose to cut class, I needed to inform the lecturer because my absence would obviously go noticed.
On July 4th, 1995, when the third Due Hard movie was scheduled to be released, a group of close friends decided to go to a 7pm showing, but since I had a class, I couldn’t make it.
Being the HUGE Die Hard fan that I am, I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to see this movie on its opening night, so I called my teacher to inform him that I was sick and could we reschedule the class.
He obviously agreed and off I went with my friends to the 7pm showing.
Suffice it to say, I loved it and we left the theater laughing and discussing the movie.
As we got to the bottom of the escalator, I heard someone call out my name and looked up to see my Professor, who obviously knew I had lied to him earlier
He took it with stride and asked ‘Hope it’s a great movie because I’m on my way to see it now too’.
😉
Did you ever find out what your Prof thought?

Ha, that’s brilliant. Glad your professor took your absence in good heart. Skipping lectures for movies should be allowed anyway! 😉

Great story! I’m always too scared to try that kind of scam in case I get caught, but at least your lecturer had a good sense of humour.
