“I’m better looking then you why doesn’t that kind of shit happen to me? ” – Derek
Number of Times Seen – 1 (9 Sep 2015)
Brief Synopsis – A group of friends spend the night in a bar talking about their lives
My Take on it – This is a movie that most people have never heard of…and there’s good reason for that.
This movie is just plain silly and the characters talk on and on while really having nothing interesting to say.
Unfortunately, stars Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio were so embarrassed that they at one point in the early part of their careers needed to make mo0ey decided to sue the producer and get it banned from distribution. IMHO, this is a terrible precedent because this is a form of censorship; they read the script, they got paid to act and because their careers took off later, that shouldn’t be a reason to stop people from watching this.
The real reason people shouldn’t watch this is because it is total crap….
Bottom Line – Stupid, raunchy movie that probably never should have been made. Dialogue doesn’t flow well between the characters. Forget about banning it, just avoid it.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – As a result of a lawsuit brought by stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire (settled in 1999), this film cannot be shown commercially in the USA or Canada. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy

Wow! I know our little movie (I wrote, produced and even acted a little in Don’s Plum) can provoke a powerful response but movierob’s is almost malicious. I’m glad that you had a chance to see it and that you agree that is wrong to have this film censored. If you’d like to read more from the filmmaker’s perspective about what happened between us, the filmmakers, and Tobey and Leo check out freedonsplum.com. If you’d like to see some great reviews of the film check out IMDB or Rotten Romatoes–some people actually love the movie. Maybe you just didn’t get it?

Thanks for stopping by and commenting Dale. It means a lot to me when film makers respond to my opinion, no matter what it is. My review wasn’t meant to be a malicious attack on you or your film, just my personal opinion after having watched the movie. Perhaps you are right and I didn’t get it. One of the things I love about the movies is that everyone has a different perception and take on everything they watch. Im glad that there are lots of people who love this movie, unfortunately I’m not among them. I will check out ur link because I am quite interested in hearing the story of the censorship. Again, I appreciate you taking the time to give me your side of things and always am happy to hear your thoughts. Best. Rob

No worries Rob. I’m thrilled that you were able to see Don’s Plum and I’m glad that it provoked enough of a response to compel you to write about it. I’ve poked around your blog and like your work. I love your passion for film and am proud to have made it to your “watched” list. Best, Dale.
