Genre Guesstimation – Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s Genre has been chosen by me.  In honor of the month when Marty McFly came to visit us here in 2015, I have decided that we will be reviewing our favorite movies featuring time travel.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of October by sending them to  Try to think out of the box!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Movies featuring Time Travel…

bill-teds-bogues-journey“[after seeing hell] We got totally lied to by our album covers, man. ” – Bill

Number of Times Seen – 2 (Cable in early 90’s and 7 Oct 2015)

Brief Synopsis – Bill and Ted are killed by impostors from the future and must get back to their bodies or the future will be in jeopardy.

My Take on it – Even 25 years ago, Hollywood was still dead-set on making as many sequels as possible in order to make more money.

That can be the only reason this movie was made because its plot is even sillier than the first one.

I only saw this once before and now I know why I never felt the urge to watch this again in the 24 years since it came out.

The whole concept of the movie is truly silly and a waste of time, but I still found the interactions that Bill and Ted have with Death to be a bit fun to watch.

Other than that, this movie has little to offer us.

So glad they never made a third one of these. 🙂

Bottom Line – This was a pretty bad sequel. I liked their interactions with Death himself, but other than that, this movie has nothing much to offer.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Joss Ackland said in a Radio Times interview he only did this project because of a bet between him and a family member. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not even close, this sequel just doesn’t do the original any justice whatsoever and is basically a complete waste of time.

Rating – Razzie Worthy

  2. Great review, Rob. The original is something special, but the sequel still has some good parts. I actually liked Death. I love how the 2 movies are only a few years apart but 1 is totally 80s and 2 is totally 90s. They each represent their decades perfectly. At least Keanu switched it up, and avoided typecasting in comedy.
