The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
This month’s Genre has been chosen by Abbi of Abbiosbiston.com We will be reviewing our favorite Alternate Love Story movies. In order to get a better idea as to what this genre might include, check out this post by Abbi from last year. Please get me your submissions by the 25th of November by sending them to altlove@movierob.net Try to think out of the box! Great choice Abbi!
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Alternative Love Story Films…
“She’s more real to me than anything I’ve ever known. ” – Alex
Number of Times Seen – 2 (17 Dec 2006 and 3 Nov 2015)
Brief Synopsis – After moving out of her house, a women begins to correspond with the previous tenant not realizing that they are stuck in a time warp.
My Take on it – Some people think that Keanu Reeves is a terrible actor and I must admit that he has some horrendous roles, but he also has some great ones and I think this movie is one of them.
Reeves and Sandra Bullock have shown how great chemistry they have together when they starred in Speed (1994) together and the chemistry is still there 12 years later when they made this movie.
I’m not always the biggest fan of romance movies, but this one really hooked me when I first saw it.
I loved the way that the characters got to know each other and the whole time warp thing, while being mysterious, worked well in this situation.
This is probably a movie that should be less believable, but I think because of the chemistry of the two leads it works very well.
Bottom Line – Really enjoyed this one. Great chemistry between Reeves and Bullock make this feel more believable than it probably should be. Loved the time warp aspect of it and how small a world these two characters really live in. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Sandra Bullock revealed in an Entertainment Weekly interview that the title house had running water but no toilets. (From IMDB)
Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Very close. I really enjoy watching this movie, it’s such a unique love story that works for me very well.
Rating – Globe Worthy
