The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015)

Brief Synopsis – Based on the TV show from the 60’s, an American and a Russian spy must work together to stop a terrorist.

My Take on it – Guy Ritchie has always had a unique style in his movies and they were interesting at first, but the novelty has worn off.

Transferring his story to the cold war era but keeping his tongue in cheek action style just didn’t work right for me.

The cokd war aspects of the movie also don’t work so well and they feel too outdated even in this kind of spy genre.

The casting of Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer and Hugh Grant were good choices but even good actors can’t help a script like this one very much.

Bottom Line – Just doesn’t work well enough as hard as it tries. Richie’s style loses its appeal and actual detracts from the enjoyment. The cold war aspects feel too retro and outdated. Cast is very good here but its too bad they don’t have more to work with.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Napoleon Solo’s trick of removing a tablecloth from a table while leaving all the objects undisturbed wasn’t a visual effect – Henry Cavill actually did it, having trained in the trick from British variety star Mat Ricardo. (From IMDB)
