Number of Times Seen – 1 (3 Nov 2015)
Brief Synopsis – 4 astronauts in training are placed in an experiment to see how they can cope with 400 days away from civilization.
My Take on it – When I read about the premise of this movie, I was immediately hooked. I’m a HUGE fan of space travel movies and I thought that one dealing with the psychological effects on an astronaut during space flight would be great.
…and the first half of this movie is….
They do a wonderful job dealing with the premise and trying to get us to believe that these 4 astronaut are being properly tested…
… and then the movie changes its premise midway to one that has been used so much beforehand.
By the time the credits role, we are left with way too many more questions than answers which is frustrating because we actually want to know those answers.
It’s very unfortunate that they decided to deal with two separate premises in a movie like this because they each take away from the impact that the other could potentially have.
I can’t say that this was a waste of time, but it was a pretty big letdown after a great buildup.
One of things that really got me excited about this movie was the way that they used real speeches and sound bytes from Presidents Kennedy, Reagan and Obama regarding the exploration of space.
Bottom Line – Great concept that is destroyed half way thru the movie. By the end, we have more questions than answers and we really really want those answers. It’s too bad they didn’t stick to the first premise before veering off to another one.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Tom Cavanagh, Caity Lotz, and Brandon Routh have large roles in the CW’s Arrow / The Flash Universe. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
