Dinosaur (2000)

dinosaur“Some things start out big, and some things start out small, very small. But sometimes the smallest thing can make the biggest changes of all. ” – Plio

Number of Times Seen – 2 (22 Apr 2001 and 5 Nov 2015)

Brief Synopsis – An orphaned Dinosaur brought up by lemurs tries to help some of the last surviving Dinosaurs get to a safe area after their homes are destroyed by falling meteors.

My Take on it – I remember seeing the preview for this movie in the theater and being blown away by how amazing this film looked.

When I finally got around to seeing it about a year later, I realized that the opening scene used as the trailer is really the most redeeming part of the whole film.

The story itself was pretty boring and unoriginal because I felt like I was once again watching The Land Before Time (1988) (which I wasn’t the biggest fan of…) sorry again Luke 😦

The animation isn’t so impressive despite this being a Disney movie.

I really like the score by James Newton Howard tho.  Listen to it here:

There are lots of much better Disney movies out there, so no need to see this one, just watch the amazing trailer below and you’ll feel uplifted.

Bottom Line – Doesn’t feel like an original story (actually feels like an exact copy of  The Land Before Time (1988) to give an example).  The animation isn’t so great despite it being a Disney film.  The opening scene is actually wondrous to watch, amazing score by James Newton Howard but the rest is really lacking.  The premise really is boring and there are so many better Disney films out there to watch instead of this one.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The original Script by Walon Green was green lit and set to go into production under the auspices of Effects Master David Allen, utilizing his patented stop motion animation technique in conjunction with live action scenes of actors playing the lemurs which were designed and to be fabricated by Rick Baker. This version was canceled when word came out that Jurassic Park was using full CGI created creatures. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy
