Death Sentence (2007)

“Man, I guess there is justice, huh.” – Owendeath sentence

Number of Times Seen – 1 (6 Dec 2015)

Brief Synopsis – After a businessman witnesses a tragedy, his life is thrown into turmoil when he tries to find justice

My Take on it – This was recommended to me quite a while ago by Vic and only now did I get the chance to watch it. (Tnx for the recommendation Vic!)

I have been a big Kevin Bacon fan for as long as I can recall and was interested to see what he could do with a story like this.

Unfortunately, the story starts off good and then quickly spirals into oblivion losing all believability and we stop caring about the characters far too soon.

The script is a mess and the number of coincidences contrived are astronomically impossible and take away from the potential of a story like this which seems to have a good message left somewhere in the debris.

At least Bacon does his best with what he has…

Bottom Line – Starts off very good and then spirals into complete silliness. Bacon is great (as usual). Too many seeming coincidences just don’t pan out and a potentially poignant message is lost here.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Based on the book, “Death Sentence” – the direct sequel novel to “Death Wish”, which itself was made into the movie Death Wish (1974) starring Charles Bronson. The Bronson movie spawned four sequel movies, none of which were influenced by the novel series. The author, Brian Garfield has disliked and does not care for each of the sequels, due to how it departs from his original character and theme in the books. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
