Slow (2008)

Brief Synopsis – A construction worker has his life changed when a picture of him appears in a newspaper.

My Take on it – This is my second of three consecutive reviews of Kurt Kuenne’s short films.

The idea here is quite clever and I liked the theme and message about “The grass is always greener…” and Kuenne’s messages usually work well, so I didn’t expect anything less than that.

My personal problem with this film is the way it was filmed.  Kuenne used a technique that I guess can be referred to as talking pictures instead of film and I can understand why this kind of experimental filming would be used, it turned me off a bit to the storyline.

That being said, this felt like it was the perfect length and told it story completely in the short 8 minutes of screen time.

Once again, we have the pleasure of “meeting up” with characters from previous Kuenne shorts and it’s always fun to watch them pop up because it just goes to prove again how small of a world we all really live in.

I still liked this movie, but just didn’t think it was superb and lacked a bit of the amazing feelings that some of his other work has injected into me.

If you want to watch this film, you can find it here:

Bottom Line – Very clever idea that has a great message.  I can’t say that I was a big fan of the way it was shot, but I can understand the intention. Once again, I enjoyed how recurring Kuenne characters pop up here and there and remind us of how small a world we really do live in. Recommended!
