Genre Guesstimation – Lunopolis (2010)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

Next month’s Genre has been chosen by Tim of FilmFunkel  We will be reviewing our favorite Found Footage movies.  In order to get a better idea as to what this genre might include, check out this post by Tim.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of December by sending them to TisTheFFSeason@movierob.net  Try to think out of the box!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Found Footage Films…

Number of Times Seen – 1 (21 Dec 2015)

Brief Synopsis – Two documentarians come across information that claims that there is proof of life on the Moon for Centuries and that they help shape the fate of the world.

My Take on it – While searching for non-horror movies in this genre, I came across the plot-line for this one and I knew that I had to watch it.

The concept is actually quite amazing and intriguing and the way that it all plays out works well almost throughout the entire film.

I was a bit put off by the low budget effects, but they too work if you think about the big picture.

The actors are pretty much all actors that are not known and in numerous cases here, their acting abilities felt quite stale which hurts the believability of it all.

The storytelling aspect is what won me over here; they told us quite a complex story by spoon-feeding it to us in simple ways that made it easier to digest.

Also, being a fan of time travel didn’t hurt because it is discussed thoroughly here also.

Bottom Line – Really interesting concept that works almost the entire time. The low-budget effects aren’t so great and some of the acting feels stale.  Loved the way they explained it all to us by using simple methods despite the idea being a bit complex.  Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This film was made on a budget of less than five thousand dollars, utilizing unpaid actors, friends and family. The small crew often showed up on location unannounced, filming scenes quickly before being kicked out. Many scenes of the dark underground area were filmed in the middle of the night at an unused stadium accessible through one unlocked door. The filmmakers were eventually confronted by security but allowed to continue after claiming they were participating in a 48-hour film contest and didn’t have time to clear location rights. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Comes pretty close. Loved the time travel aspects and the explanations of how things worked, but too much just didn’t feel believable enough to me due to very novice actors and simple effects.

Rating – Globe Worthy
