Number of Times Seen – 1 (24 Dec 2015)
Brief Synopsis – In order to help support her family, a divorced woman tries to sell her inventions. Based on a true story.
My Take on it – I am always weary of movies by David O. Russell because I tend to not like the characters or the tone of the film, so I was very hesitant to see this film.
But in the end I’m quite glad that I did because it was much better than I anticipated it would be.
Yes, the characters were quirky but still engaging to follow as the story unfolded in front of me.
Each character had their own voice and we can understand their motivations for everything they do.
The cast is also great despite it feeling like Russell just uses the same actors over and over and plugs them into new parts each time.
Because they all already have proven to work well together, they let themselves flow and its possible that thats the reason they feel familiar.
I’m not quite sure as to why this movie is considered a comedy because it is more of a lite drama with humoristic tones peppered throughout.
If you’re looking for a pretty good lite drama, you probably can’t go wrong by choosing this one.
Bottom Line – Much better than I expected. Great and quirky characters that each have their own voice that shines through. Excellent cast that mainly consists of Russell’s regulars help make us believe the story. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Joy Mangano first developed the Miracle Mop in 1990, the same year actress Jennifer Lawrence was born. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
