Number of Times Seen – 1 (3 Jan 2016)
Brief Synopsis – Days before they are to celebrate their 45th Wedding anniversary, the life and relationship of a couple is completely changed when they get a shocking letter.
My Take on it – I hadn’t heard much about this movie, but when my good friend Jane recommend it to me, I decided to give it a chance.
This movie does such a wonderful job of creating a story where we believe that the two main characters (played by Tom Courtenay and Charlotte Rampling) have really been together and in love for 45 years.
Their daily routines are set, their house is organized as they want and even their lovemaking is part of that routine. It all just seems to work so well for them.
Everything is turned upside down after a letter arrives with some news that comes 50 years too late.
We then see how despite their normal daily routines, they must try and find a way to continue their lives.
This movie asks so many excellent questions about how love affects people over the years and stays with them while weathering those years thru thick and thin.
Bottom Line – Excellent performances by both lead actors because you really believe that they have been together for so long by the way they act towards each other and also with how the routines in their lives are set like clockwork. Asks so many questions about love and how it affects all of us even after so many years. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In several scenes, Tom Courtenay’s character Geoff drinks his tea from a Hull City AFC mug: Tom is the President of the Hull City Official Supporters’ Club. (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy
