“I don’t want my restaurant to be a place where people sit and eat. I want people to sit at that table and be sick with longing. ” – Adam Jones
Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 Jan 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A Chef who was ruined years earlier, tries to get his life and work back on track in order to open a new exceptional restaurant in London
My Take on it – What ever happened to wanting to like the characters in a film?
This movie takes some of the characters personalities to the extreme and instead of wanting them to succeed, we just don’t care about what will happen to them.
Movies about chefs don’t require us to hate the ego-maniacal lead character, but it is possible to make a fun movie about a chef that is still enjoyable.
Chef (2014) did that si well and even after so long, I am interested in meeting those characters again.
The one’s in this film…not so much.
Bradley Cooper has done well for himself in the past, but this year isn’t a standout year for him by any accounts.
The story doesn’t work well enough and by the end I actually disliked many of the characters more than I did at the beginning.
Emma Thompson’s character is one of the few likable ones, but she appears too little to have made a difference.
The characters and situations just feel too uptight and makes me want to eat at home if this is the way chefs really act.
Bottom Line – Might have been better if the characters were slightly more likable and if we could care about what they were doing to themselves. This is another mediocre Cooper film for 2015 that just doesn’t work well enough. Chef (2014) managed to be more likable, fun and not as cut throat so it’s somewhat understandable how this could be considered an uptight film with uptight characters.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – After the film wrapped, consultant chef Marcus Wareing has said that if he had to hire anyone from the leading actors, he would choose Sienna Miller for her culinary skills. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy

Nice review. With the culture so dialed in to cooking shows, this director really missed an opportune window I haven’t seen it but the many reviews i’ve read say the same thing you are saying.

Great review! I loved Chef so I was really looking forward to Burnt, even though I knew they would be very different movies. What a disappointment!
