home“High hands touching!” – Oh

Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 Jan 2016)

Brief Synopsis – An alien race takes over Earth while trying to flee from another alien race.

My Take on it – Over the last twenty years or so, PIXAR and other animated studios have constantly raised the bar on the entertainment level of animated movies so that both adults and kids alike will enjoy their movies.

This movie by Dreamworks for some reason doesn’t follow suit.

I found the story to feel quite average and predictable and didn’t care much what would happen to any of the characters.

On the other hand, my kids enjoyed it because it was definitely geared towards them with the kinds of jokes and slapstick humor that appeal to them.

Jim Parsons is great on the TV show The Big Bang Theory and here he is able to channel his annoying Sheldon-ess into an annoying alien.

At the beginning his charcter is humorous, but eventually he gets really annoying and I just wanted him and the movie to stop.  The irony is that this is the kind of expression his character is meant to invoke. 🙂

Bottom Line – Not a typical animated movie because it offers so little for adults and is geared entirely towards kids. Parsons is great because he is able to get on our nerves right away, just like his character should. The story is weak and very predictable. My kids liked it much more than I did.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This movie is based on the book “The True Meaning of Smekday” (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
