Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 Jan 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A man with emotional problems meets a beautiful women and does all he can to impress her.
My Take on it – Like many other people, I’ve never been a fan of Adam Sandler’s work and felt that even though he tries a dramatc role here, his performnace is still lacking.
He is still able to annoy no matter what kind of role he takes.
The rest of the cast is very good and they manage to do a pretty good job with the material they have because some parts of the story and premise actually make some sense.
The problem I had with this tho is the fact that too much feels unexplained or unresolved.
This makes the film lose a lot of its effectiveness and unlike a normal romance film, this one left me with a bitter taste instead of a sweet one like the genre usually delivers.
Bottom Line – Not the biggest Sandler fan and despite this not being a comedy, he managed to make his character still quite annoying. Excellent cast that works from an interesting premise. Too much feels unexplained and unresolved which makes this film lose a lot of its effectiveness.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – During promotional interview for Magnolia (1999), a British journalist asked director Paul Thomas Anderson which actors he would like to work with in future. Anderson replied that he would like to work with Adam Sandler and Daniel Day-Lewis. The journalist believed Anderson was joking, because the two actors are from such different backgrounds and have very different acting styles. However, Anderson’s next two films did indeed feature these two actors in the lead roles (this film starring Sandler, and There Will Be Blood (2007) starring Day-Lewis). (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
