Truth (2015)

truth“Reporting the news was a duty…It was a trust.” – Dan Rather

Number of Times Seen – 1 (17 Jan 2016)

Brief Synopsis – Based on the true story of an investigative reporting team that broke the story on President George W. Bush’s military service.

My Take on it – This is a movie that I’ve wanted to see ever since I heard about it back in the fall.

I once had aspirations of being a journalist and I’ve usually enjoyed most movies about investigative reporting that I’ve seen.

This genre is amongst my favorites and I was so happy last month to add Spotlight (2015) to the list and now with the opportunity to add this one too, I’m quite pleased.

The cast is unbelievably talented with Cate Blanchett, Robert Redford, Dennis Quaid, Elisabeth Moss, Topher Grace, Bruce Greenwood, Stacey Keach, David Lyons and Dermot Mulroney all doing exceptional jobs.

One of my favorites in this genre is Michael Mann’s The Insider (1999) and I loved the parallels between the two stories and obviously the CBS/60 Minutes connection.

Both movies deal with the questions of responsible and trustworthy journalism vs. corporate sponsorship CYA’s.

Once again, here is a movie that opens up the debate about honest reporting and how networks should act even in controversial situations.

Bottom Line – Excellent movie that once again shows how great movies in this genre can be. Amazing cast all across the board. Very interesting connections with The Insider (1999). Really opens the debate as to how reporters and networks should act. Highly recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This is the third collaboration between Dennis Quaid and Topher Grace, who previously appeared together in Traffic (2000) (though they shared no scenes together in that film), and In Good Company (2004). (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy
