The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
This month’s Genre has been chosen by Natasha of Life of This City Girl
We will be reviewing our favorite Sci-Fi Movies.

Try to think out of the box!
Great choice Natasha!
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Sci-Fi Films…
Number of Times Seen – 2 (Theater in ’95 and 18 Jan 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A former policeman serving time in prison is released in order to capture a “virtual” criminal wrecking havoc on the city.
My Take on it – I’m not an advocate of remaking movies, but this is actually one of the few that I would recommend for remaking.
The idea of this film is great, but way before its time.
Technology today would make this an even better film to enjoy than the way it was done twenty years ago.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Denzel Washington and he is quite average here.
This was one of Russell Crowe’s earliest US films and it can be seen from his performance here the potential he had as an actor even from this psychotic role.
Interesting to watch, but not really a great film.
Bottom Line – Excellent premise that should actually be tried again using modern technology and an updated script. Denzel is his usual average self, but it’s possible to see the potential of Crowe even in this psychotic role.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – According to Kelly Lynch, she and Washington were supposed to kiss in the film. But Washington wanted the scene dropped because he felt an interracial love scene would hurt the film box-office chances. (From IMDB)
Genre Grandeur Worthy? –
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
