“We don’t give out that information.” – Joan Graves
Number of Times Seen – 1 (18 Jan 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A documentary of how the MPAA rating system works both for good and for bad.
My Take on it – This is a movie that I heard about years ago, but never got around to seeing it until now.
I’m so glad that I finally chose to see it because the style used by Kirby Dick to try and show us what really is behind the whole MPAA system is very ingenious.
We get to see the way the system works (and doesn’t work) and the investigative techniques used to show us it all is very informative and educational.
The system has a lot of kinks in it and we get to see it all through various film making techniques.
So much information seems to be hidden from film makers, that it is refreshing to see the “classified” information uncovered like this.
It’s unbelievable how many film makers were willing to contribute to this film and we get to see a vast array of interviews explaining their own personal experiences with the system.
Bottom Line – Loved the way that this was presented. The way that the whole system is explained is very informative and educational. It’s actually quite interesting to watch how the process works, despite the various kinks in it. The methods that Kirby Dick uses to try and uncover all of the “classified” information is both informative and shocking. Excellent array of interviewees that really show the diversity and bias of the system. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The producers wish to thank “everyone at the IFC Center,” “all the filmmakers with the balls to be in this film”. (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy
