Brief Synopsis – A freedom fighter from the future is sent back in time to safeguard the mother of the resistance leader when she is targeted for termination
My Take on it – This is such a great sci-fi film because when it came out at the time, it was able to revolutionize what everyone thought about the sci-fi genre and Time travel movies in particular.
So many films have used the ideas created here but very few are able to come anywhere close to this execution of the idea.
The immediate sequel is just as good (if not slightly better), but that has more to do with advances in technology than anything else.
This movie was what made Arnold Schwarzenegger a household name and his life (and action movie fans) have never been happier.
James Cameron showed the world with this movie what a great writer/director he can be and made him the success he became all due to this one.
There are 3 other sequels that are good, but none come anywhere close to being as great as the original.
Bottom Line – Great sci-fi time travel movie that helped create the mold for the genre. Made Schwarzenegger a world wide star and Cameron a much sought after writer and director. Spawned 4 sequels (so far) but nothing can really compare to this one and it’s immediate sequel. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – O.J. Simpson was considered for the Terminator, but the producers feared he was “too nice” to be taken seriously as a cold-blooded killer. In 1990 (before Simpson’s first trial) Dark Horse Comics printed issues using his likeness. (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy (no change from original review)

I still prefer Terminator 2 just in terms of pure spectacle, but this is a sinister bit of sci-fi pulp and I love it. Good review.
