“I like being old, young people are stupid.” – Elle
Number of Times Seen – 1 (27 Jan 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A teenager seeks the help of her free living grandmother when she must find money for an abortion.
My Take on it – I heard about this movie a few months back and have been itching to see it ever since because I had heard that both it and Lily Tomlin’s performance were great.
She really shines throughout and it has been quite some time since I’ve seen her give such a great performance.
The script is clever and some of the characters created are spectacular.
My favorite besides Tomlin’s Elle is Sam Elliott’s Karl but there are a few other great ones.
It’s really unfortunate that this movie isn’t as well known as it should be because it really is a great little gem that is both fun and emotional.
Bottom Line – Tomlin really shines here and gives one of her best performances in years. The script is clever and we meet some great characters. Too bad this movie doesn’t get more love than it has gotten because it’s so much fun and emotional along the way. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The car that Elle (Lily Tomlin) and Sage (Julia Garner) drive in for much of the movie is a 1955 Dodge Royal that is actually owned by Lily Tomlin. Tomlin told USA Today that she bought it in 1975 for $1,500. She said, “It’s not a prize car. It’s not a car that people yearn for. But it has a nice look to it. . . . The car is almost a character in the movie. I knew I kept that car for a reason.” (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy

I watched this last night and I agree it is Oscar Worthy. I liked Lily Tomlin’s crazy wild and free character. Contrasted against her daughter’s cold, business type it was clearly preferable. There was a lot of humanity here and I hope a lot of people see it. We need to befriend, love, support all young women who get pregnant without judgement. Great movie.
