This is my 1,978th movie review
Thanks to Darren for recommending this film to me!
“Nobody’s perfect. There was never a perfect person around. You just have half-angel and half-devil in you. ” – Linda
Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 Feb 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A pair of lovers and his sister travel to Texas looking for work and develop a scheme to get rich quick.
My Take on it – I have always tried to shy away from movies by Terrance Malick because the first two that I saw (A Thin Red Line (1998) and The Tree of Life (2011) ) were both visually stunning, but utterly boring because the narrative was weak.
For the first Movies From the Hat, I watched and reviewed Badlands (1973) which I really liked, so I was hopeful that this movie would be more like that than the other two movies I had seen of his.
Unfortunately, I found this one to be extremely boring because the story moved along way too slow and not much actually happens.
Conversely, the visuals of this movie are spectacular, but without a competent story, I can’t eve give it points for that.
I did find it nice to see very young Sam Shepard and Richard Gere here, but neither of them could help this weak storyline.
Bottom Line -Visually stunning (as Malick always is), but too slow moving and boring. Nice to see Gere and Shepard here, but I’m glad this was short.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Terrence Malick spent two whole years editing this film. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy

I’d give this a go! Not that familiar with Terrance Malick, I think the only movie I have of his is Badlands but I do love that!

It’s similar to True Romance IF I remember rightly? I know it came first, I know it came first! Not saying that, but I’m sure they’re similar?

Sometimes you read my mind so well it’s spooky. I was so going to say it came first haha. It’s pretty much identical I think.

Love the music too. His films always feel more like paintings.
