Movies From the Hat III – Edward Scissorhands (1990)

This is my 1,990th movie review

Thanks to Alex for recommending this film to me!

edward-scissorhands“Sweetheart, you can’t buy the necessities of life with cookies. ” – Bill

Number of Times Seen – 2 (8 May 2009 and 7 Feb 2016)

Brief Synopsis – After a woman discovers a young man with scissors for hands and brings him to her town where he helps them all change their lives for the better.

My Take on it – This is another movie that I’ve seen once before but didn’t like it at all, but when Alex recommended it, I decided to give it another try.

I actually remember when this came out and just from the trailer and the ads, I knew it wasn’t for me.

Tim Burton’s films are generally too quirky and dark for me and besides his two Batman movies, I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen any others that I’ve liked.

The one thing this (& most Burton films) has going for them is the great cast. Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, Diane Wiest and Alan Arkin are are pretty good here.

The sculptures he creates are pretty cool looking too, but the story feels lacking IMHO.

Bottom Line – Not the biggest Burton fan and still can’t say I enjoyed this movie. Premise is too dark and quirky for me. Great cast and sculptures tho.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This was Vincent Price’s last screen appearance and his last moment ever on screen is a death scene. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
