This is my 1,995th movie review
Thanks to Cara for recommending this film to me!
Number of Times Seen – 1 (10 Feb 2016)
Brief Synopsis – Three Drag Queens travel across the US in order to attend a National Drag Queen competition and get into lots of trouble along the way.
My Take on it – This is yet another movie recommended that I had heard of, but never had the real inclination to watch, but when Cara suggested it, I was still keen to give it a shot.
I think my biggest issue with this film was the fact that since we know the three main actors very well, it’s hard to believe them in drag.
Had they used lesser known actors, the whole idea might have been easier to believe because instead of seeing Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes and John Leguziano in costumes as women, we might have thought of the characters being more feminine and believable as women.
This movie does have some interesting themes and discusses so many issues of tolerance both of others and more importantly of one’s self.
Bottom Line – Very unnerving watching these actors in drag. Discusses lots of interesting ideas about tolerance of others and of one’s self, but the story itself isn’t so great. Perhaps it would have been better with lesser known actors in the main roles because then we could possible believe the premise much better.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Before filming the scene in which Sheriff Dollard (played by Chris Penn) pulls the car over at the roadside, Patrick Swayze secretly placed a corn cob down the front of his underwear. Penn’s expression of shock upon putting his hand up Swayze’s dress is not faked. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
