This is my 1,998th movie review
Thanks to Carly for recommending this film to me!
Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 Feb 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A journalist is sent on a quest to find a long lost Musician who faked his own death ten years earlier.
My Take on it – I had heard of this film only because it was nominated for an Oscar for Costume Design and the name and premise struck me.
I never had much of an inclination to see it and now that Carly recommended it to me, I finally had the chance.
This movies has a lot to like in it; the story is interesting and the way they chose to present it keeps us guessing throughout.
I have read numerous places that the method used here is similar to the one used in Citizen Kane (1941) and I must agree that the description is apt.
The music used here really gets us into the Disco scene and is used superbly.
They chose a very interesting way to narrate the film and I liked it.
The cast is great with Ewan McGregor, Christian Bale and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers all giving excellent performnaces.
The slightly problem I had was that the story itself gets a tad loopy in certain scenes and it distracts from the beauty of the rest of it, but it’s still a story that keeps you interested.
Bottom Line – Great music and an interesting story. Liked the way they narrate this film. Great cast, but the story gets a bit loopy along the way, but still remains interesting. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When Brian first sees Mandy, he says “Do you jive?” That’s what David Bowie is supposed to have said when he first saw his first wife, Angie Bowie.(From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
