This is my 1,999th movie review
Thanks to Abbi for recommending this film to me!
Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 Feb 2016)
Brief Synopsis – Four high-school friends do all they can to attend a KISS concert in Detroit in 1979 trying to overcome all the obstacle thrown in their way.
My Take on it – Having grown up in Detroit around the time this movie tales place should have probably meant that I woulda already seen this, but alas, it (like so many other movies) was able to slip away from my grasp.
I had so much fun watching this film and really could understand the characters and their obsession to get to the KISS concert. (I had a similar desire a few years later to make it to a Billy Joel concert in ’86, but had to wait til ’89 to get tickets for that)
I really enjoyed how this movie was a teen movie, but also an urban adventure for the 4 main characters while secretly traveling from Ohio to Michigan (Funnily enough, a few friends and I did the opposite route a few times going from Detroit to Cleveland in the early 90’s)
None of the 4 actors really stand out here as the lead, but they all do a fair job being part of a group (band) and they work so well off each other, that we really believe that they could be friends.
They do a great job reconstructing the late 70’s – early 80’s rock craze and I could so believe that they transported is back to that era.
Loved how KISS was so helpful in getting this made.
Bottom Line – Found this to be quite fun. Loved how it was a teen movie, but also an adventure for all of the characters. None of the actors really stick out, but as a group (band) they work well. It feels quite realistic and is reminiscent of the late 70’s – early 80’s rock craze. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – KISS re-enacted a ’70s-era concert with approx 3,000 fans for the filming of the movie. (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy
