This is my 2,006th movie review
Thanks to Mel for recommending this film to me!
“See no one treats me like a lady here. ” – Madame du Barry
Number of Times Seen – 1 (14 Feb 2016)
Brief Synopsis – Biopic about the last Queen of France during her years from being a new bride through the downfall of the monarchy during The French Revolution.
My Take on it – This is a movie that I have always avoided on purpose because I perceived that it woukd be extremely boring to watch.
The complete opposite is true.
The story is quite engrossing and it is very interesting to see how the court of the monarchy of France ruled and eventually fell.
It is all told from an outsider’s view as the newly bethrothed princess from Austria slowly learns the ins and outs of palace and royal life.
The production is amazing and the design of the court, the costumes and the look of it all really transports us to that time and place. It won an Oscar for Best Costume Design.
Kirsten Dunst is perfect for the title role and feels both regal and down to earth in the role of a women caught in the wrong place in the wrong time.
Bottom Line – Was pleasantly surprised as to how engrossing this movie was. Glad I finally saw it because the production is amazing and it also tells a story of a formidable women caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Dunst is amazing here in the title role. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Sofia Coppola refused to read the famous biography of Marie-Antoinette written by Stefan Zweig, which she judged too strict. She turned instead to the book by Antonia Fraser, which makes the queen a more human character, a young girl with no connection to reality who finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
