Movies From the Hat III – Attack the Block (2011)

This is my 2,011th movie review

Thanks to Justine for recommending this film to me!

attack-the-block“This is too much madness to explain in one text!” – Jerome

Number of Times Seen – 1 (16 Feb 2016)

Brief Synopsis – Tenants in a South London tenement building must band together to fight off alien invaders.

My Take on it – I didn’t know what to expect from thsi film and wasn’t too surprised that it was totally not for me.

I found the plot, the dialogue and the characters to be quite silly and didn’t care about any of them at all.

This movie somewhat reminded me of Grabbers (2012) which I also disliked very much.

The one thing I liked here tho was seeing John Boyega in a different role. Yes, his character is no where close to being like Finn and that makes his Star Wars role that much more impressive.

Bottom Line – Totally not for me. Found it to be too silly and reminded me too much of Grabbers (2012).  Nice to see Boyega here, but he is totally different than the Finn we all know and love.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – John Boyega found out about this film from an ad placed on-line. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy

  1. Yeah, I found this one a tad disappointing as well. Boyega is great in the lead role and I always appreciate Frost, but the film just felt flabby and misdirected.

  2. Aw sorry you hated it. I watched it for the first time about a year ago after hearing John Boyega was going to be a main actor in the new Star Wars, and I wanted to see what he was made of. It seemed like a silly movie for sure and I was half expecting to hate it, but I surprisingly liked it quite a bit. So I figured it could go either way when I recommended it.

  3. Nooo. Too bad you didn’t like this cult classic, Rob. Great recommendation. I saw this when it first came out. It really surprised me. Tons of fun, like Shaun of the Dead… with aliens… and UK teens saving the world. I thought Boyega was a standout as Moses and was cheering from him. So cool when he was on horseback. This is silly for sure, so it’s not for everyone. Bmovie genre fans should have fun.
