This is my 2,014th movie review
Thanks once again to Boaz for recommending this film to me!
Number of Times Seen – 1 (16 Feb 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A popular comedian tries to get his life back on track when he stars in a serious movie which is about to be released days before he himself is to get married to a reality TV star.
My Take on it – I have always been a fan of Chris Rock’s kind of standup comedy and I somehow missed this film until now.
Rock does an amazing job here largely because it feels in some ways autobiographical and I even felt quite often that Rock himself was being interviewed by the Reporter (played by Rosario Dawson) instead of his character.
The two of them have really great chemistry together.
This movie is filled with so many amazing cameos and some of them are quite surprising and shocking. It goes to show how much Rock is liked in the industry.
His comedy still feels fresh and funny.
I can’t wait to see what he will have for us come Oscar night in ten days.
Bottom Line – Rock is great in this film and really portrays the kind of lifestyle many other comedians have lived through while trying to change the perception fans have of them. Lots of amazing cameos; some are truly hilarious and not what one would expect. Rock and Dawson have great chemistry together and in some ways, it felt that the real Chris Rock was being interviewed and not just his characters. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Chris Rock wrote the screenplay in his trailer during the filming of Grown Ups 2 (2013) (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
