Genre Guesstimation – Two-Minute Warning (1976)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s Genre has been chosen by Dan of Slipthrough Movies We will be reviewing our favorite Crime Movies.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of February by sending them to criminaldan@movierob.net

Try to think out of the box!

Great choice Dan!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Crime Films…
two minute warning“You listen. I just hope you pick the right team today, Stu, because if I don’t get that 28 G’s in my pocket before sundown, you’re going to take another trip out the window. And next time, nobody holds the ankles. You got it? ” – Mr. Green

Number of Times Seen – 1 (22 Feb 2016)

Brief Synopsis – A crazed sniper decides to target individuals at a major Football championship game and the police have to find a way to stop him.

My Take on it –  I came across this movie by accident and really didn’t know what to expect.

It turns out that it really is an interesting thriller that also fits smoothly in with the big 1970’s genre of disaster movies.

It does a good job of introducing us to many of the characters briefly so that we can worry about their eventual fates more because they aren’t just random characters.

Unfortunately, none of them really stand out here, but it still is nice to see some familiar faces like Charlton Heston, Jack Klugman, Martin Balsam, John Cassavetes and Beau Bridges.

Due to the nature of the theme, this is the kind of movie that is expected to be bloody, it just makes me chuckle by the way many 70’s movies depicted blood.

Be prepared for it tho.

They do a wonderful job slowly building up the tension throughout most of the film and you really never know when things will begin to escalate which keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout.

Bottom Line – Very interesting thriller that also fits in well with the disaster genre of the 70’s.  None of the actors really stand out, but it’s nice to see some familiar faces here. Movie gets a bit bloody, but that’s expected from something like this, so be prepared.  Expertly keeps the tensions rising little by little until we really want to see what will happen.  Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Charlton Heston joked while doing promotional work for this movie, that it was a pleasant change to be doing a modern dress movie as you got to keep your costume. The majority of Heston’s roles were in lavish costume dramas and historical epics. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Comes close, but it’s far from perfect despite expertly keeping the tension level high.

Rating – Globe Worthy
