Number of Times Seen – 1 (28 Feb 2016)
Brief Synopsis – A Vietnam War veteran goes on a trip to reunite with his former brothers in arm in order to start a new business venture together.
My Take on it – I really enjoy movies where we can try to get inside the heads of the characters and care so much for them.
It’s even better if we are still curious about what happens to them after the credits role.
This movie is a perfect example of that because both Henry Winkler and Sally Field play such interesting characters that 90 minutes felt too short a time to spend with them.
This film came out not long after the Vietnam War ended and the idea of portraying characters so effected by their war experiences is done so well.
The fact that even now nearly 40 years later the Armed forces still
don’t know how to properly deal with vets with ptsd makes this even more poignant and relevant today.
This movie was filmed pre Star Wars (1977) but was released afterwards so it’s no wonder that Harrison Ford gets very high billing despite having a relatively small role.
Bottom Line – Winkler and Field are both great here. Really liked the way they portrayed a vet with ptsd in a world that didn’t know how to treat him properly. Ford has a bit part but due to his stature after filming he gets too high billing for his role. Would have loved to find out what happens to the characters later on in their lives. Highly recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – According to TV Guide, the movie was “one of the first Hollywood films to deal with the plight of Vietnam veterans”. (From IMDB)
